Restraint and Confiscation

New powers allowing police and customs officers to seize assets came in to force in December 2002. The Proceeds of Crime Act 2000 marks a renewed determination by the government to confiscate the assets of those the authorities suspect to be guilty of criminal wrongdoing, and it is no longer a requirement for somebody to be convicted of a qualifying offence before such legislation can begin to bite.

Our considerable experience in defending confiscation proceedings will be invaluable to those clients who find themselves defending such attacks, and we frequently act for clients who find their assets restrained by the High Court. We regularly instruct senior counsel and leading accountants, ensuring that our clients have access to the most up-to-date and relevant expertise.
