Police Misconduct

Our Police Action Department (PAD) focuses exclusively on police misconduct and offers clients advice and redress usually in the form of complaints and/or civil claims against the Police. Police misconduct may involve minor matters such as officers being rude but can also involve officers acting in breach of a person's civil liberties and fundamental human rights.

Complaints refer to the procedure where officers may be disciplined or prosecuted for misconduct. Civil Claims relate to suing the police for money to compensate an individual for injuries or loss of rights.

The firm has PAD departments in London and Manchester. Each department has two senior full time solicitors and a number of support staff dedicated to the department's work. Both departments are recognised by the Legal Services Commission as specialist in the field offering the public expert advice and representation.

PAD provides Civil Liberties advice and training to the crime solicitors at Tuckers and also other firms. The department's work comes almost entirely through internal referrals and referrals from other solicitor firms. The solicitors in the department are member of the Police Actions Lawyers Group which is made up of more than 120 solicitors and barristers from around the country who specialise in this specialist area of law.
