Operations Weeting & Golding abandoned by DPP

December 11, 2015

Phil Smith, lawyer for Neil Wallis, former deputy editor of the News of the World, and a number of other journalists being treated as suspects in the long running phone hacking enquiries, has welcomed the decision by the Director of Public Prosecutions not to bring any more prosecutions related to the enquiries.

On Twitter, Phil said “Being involved at the sharp end of Operations Weeting & Golding from 2011 till now I praise these sensible decisions”.

His views were echoed by Mr Wallis who tweeted “Absolutely right by lawyer who, with my barrister Neil Saunders, destroyed prosecution & won my acquittal on hacking”.
