Tuckers pursues damages against “James Bond”

February 4, 2013

The Tuckers’ Action Against the Police team, headed by Jules Carey are continuing in their efforts to recover damages on behalf of a number of women on the basis that they allege that they were duped into intimate relationships by undercover police officers.  At a preliminary hearing, Justice Tugendhat indicated that Parliament must have anticipated that under cover officers would have acted in this way – citing James Bond as an example of an agent who used relationships with women in order to achieve his objectives.

The cases are now proceeding on the basis that there may well have been a breach of the human rights of the claimants.  However, the case is now scheduled to be heard by the secretive investigatory tribunals panel – which will keep the proceedings out of the normal public arena.  More information on this case can be found at http://www.channel4.com/news/judge-allows-damages-claims-against-undercover-police
