Chambers & Partners – accolades for Tuckers

November 2, 2015

Tuckers have once again had two Partners named in the top tier of individual lawyer’s ranked in the Crime section of Chambers & Partners, with the firm ranked in both the Crime and Financial Crime categories once again.

Sarnjit Lal is identified as an “Associate to Watch”, a little out of date now she has been made a Partner at Tuckers, but hopefully a flavour of further recognition to come next year.  Julia Thomas was also identified as a “Star Associate” in the Health & Safety category.

The breadth of the firm’s offering is evident in the commentary in which Band 1 Partner Richard Egan is cited for the quality of his saying; “Nothing is too much trouble for him when he is acting for a client”  and that he is well known for his work on cases that involve complex issues of corruption and money laundering. He is identified by sources as “absolutely outstanding – he provides a great service to both client and barrister with real attention to detail.”

“Consummate professional” Jim Meyer is recommended for his technical skills and experience described by observers as “very thorough and a phenomenally hard worker.” His practice covers a diverse range of areas including bribery and internal investigations and he is regularly instructed to act in matters involving the financial services sector.  Jim is also recognised in the Health & Safety category in connection with his prosecution practice in respect of which he is described by sources as “a formidable force.”

The “extremely impressive” Philip Smith has a strong reputation for his representation to high net worth and media sector clients including newspaper journalists. Peers say: “He is extremely professional and has impeccable judgement.”  He garners praise for being “highly skilled at advising senior executives and directors accused of white-collar crime.  According to sources, he is “able to get on top of the most detailed case extremely quickly and has a fantastic personable manner – he is someone who engenders immediate trust and respect.”

Sarnjit Lal is “incredibly organised and responsive”.  With a practice centred on the representation of privately funded clients, including handling sexual offence charges brought against foreign nationals. Sources highlight her client care, saying: “She can speak to clients at any time and give them excellent advice in a very reassuring manner.”

The Crime practices of Birmingham and Manchester offices are also recognised in Band 1 for their regions.

In addition to accolades in the Crime categories of the directory, Tuckers has also been recognised within the Civil Liberties directory, with Marian Ellingworth to the fore for “her conscientious and hard working approach” and in the Police Law section, with Andre Clovis being singled out for being  “remarkably devoted” to his clients.

The firm is also ranked in Health & Safety as a firm.  Along with the plaudits for Jim Meyer, the directory acknowledges Julia Thomas’ experience gained during her previous position in the HSE’s litigation and enforcement legal team to prosecute and defend a range of health and safety offence cases, including cases that regularly include manslaughter charges.
