Tuckers successfully oppose Ukrainian extradition

April 30, 2013
Renata Pinter has successully represented Miss Iuliia Redia  who, along with her husband, was requested by the Government of Ukraine in respect of allegations of large scale faud with a value of £750,000, forgery, conspiracy to commit money laundering offences and use of forged documents.  Issues were raised concerning extradition offences and potential breaches of Articles 3, 5 & 6 of ECHR.  The defendant was discharged in her previous extradition proceedings following a succesful Judicial Review application in 2011 when she was previously represented by Renata.  After this discharge, a new request was issued by Ukraine.  The matter was adjourned for some time  pending the Secretary of State to considering the merit of Miss Redia’s asylum claim, but proceeded to an Extradition hearing.  In the meantime, asylum was granted and, the Secretary of State having failed to order extradition within the required period, the discharge of the extradition proceedings was ordered.
